Don't remember exactly which element but I think is the fosfor which is in GL5 oil that is doing the damage to old gearboxes. It corrodes copper..
So if it doesn't contain fosfor elements it should be OK.

yea i know that... and i think its sulphur but that doesnty mather...

the point is if oil is GL4 AND GL5 regulations it should be safe... right?
maybe its better to find just GL4 oil, but ist a bit hard
all i found is GL4 and GL5 in one package...

so i just asking is it safe to use this combo... it does have GL4 mark so it should be safe...

Just read through the full oil story.
my decisions
engine: Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W40 (rebuild engine after run in)
diff: Motul 90PA (rebuild TRD 2 way)
gear box: Redline MT90 (clearly says its GL4 and protects syncros)
brake fluid: Motul RBF600

Hope this is ok...
Do you think its ok to use Motul 90PA with the TRD 2-way LSD?

I am resurrecting a little bit this topic after a while as i would like to hear your opinions on some new engine oils i plan to try in my AE86 with 185tkm on the clock with unmodfied 4AGE 16v. If someone has real hands on experience this would be great if he can provide some feedback. Thank you.

On oil CZ forum they recommended that i try:

RAVENOL TSi SAE 10W-40
Millers Oils EE 10w40 ( 7708 )
Motul 6100 Synergie+ 10w40

According oil advisor (Used MR2 W11 as there is no AE86) for 4AGE possible oil options:

RAVENOL:
RAVENOL TSJ SAE 10W-30
RAVENOL TSi SAE 10W-40
RAVENOL HVE High Viscosity Ester Oil SAE 10W-50

EE 10w40 ( 7708 )
Trident 5w30 (5995)

For consideration are these oils as well because of the ester core.
What i am not completely sure if for regular driving (not racing) it is wise to use them.
Point is that i don't see any civil versions of ester core engine oils on the market or have not discovered them yet. I saw some PAO+Ester mix oils and also those ester oils are synthetic. I am considering these oils because of recommendation from oil expert from czech oil forum because i try to find better oil that is lubricating engine till it reaches operating temperature.

Im not that informed about specific oil types, but there is some info to be found out there.
There's this brazilian guy on youtube who does oil testing and both Ravenol and Motul full synthetics did very well.
Im using Motul Econergy in my daily driver at the moment.

The most important thing with oil is to change it regularly. If you pick a decent oil (do a bit of research) of the correct viscosity then you
are doing more than enough for your old 4AGE (and offcourse dont beat on it till the engine reaches operating temperature).

I am not sure how oil change apply to my driving style as i do probably about 1500km-3000km a year some years back it was even less as i had not time for the car. So perhaps to me it apply to do oil change once a year. But i was not able to read exact info on this topic because i don't have it in owners manual or i don't see it in workshop guide.

I decided for now to go with motul 6100 10w40 which is 60-70% syntetic but still a half synth oil with k&n hp oil filter i used denso 90915-yzzj1 to this time but i see the build quality looks poor and all i got last time where made in china and i don't like it.

I've always been afraid to poor full synth into older engines that havent ran on it before but I wonder if that is just urban myth.
For those few km's per year you may as well use the best oil you can get.. once a year is more than enough with 3000 k per year.
It should probably last longer than that.
